Donghai County of Lianyungang city has won it name home and abroad as "China's Crystal Capital" due to its big production and full varieties of quartz and crystal resources. With excellent quality, the crystal and quartz in Donghai accounts the largest production and reserves in China. 

　　The crystals are mostly white, but can also be seen in brown, yellow, pink, and purple. They range in size from small pieces that fit into the palm of the hand to the Crystal King, a 3.5-ton monster discovered in 1995. Their types include the hair crystal, which contains hair-like substances, and the grass and water-core crystals. Chairman Mao Zedong's coffin was made from the crystal produced here.

　　Handicrafts made of crystal are booming and silicon processing industry has been a national and provincial pillar industry. Silicon powder, pipe of quartz glass, piezoelectric crystals and chips occupy 70% to 80% of the market share in domestic market. An industrial group of silicon material with international influence has been initially come into being.
